SCEATTAS - coin inspired sterling silver jewellery

Connell & Hart’s Sceat jewellery is handmade in Northumberland from sterling silver.
It inspired by silver Anglo Saxon coins which were made in Britain from the late 7th to the mid 8th Century. They were widely in use throughout eastern and southern England but especially in Northumbria, many bearing the inscription of Eadberht King of Northumberland from
738 -758.
Just as the imagery on Sceattas often depicted animals and mythical beasts important to the Anglo Saxons Connell & Hart’s coin jewellery reflects the flora and fauna of Northumberland where they live and work.

CURLEW JEWELLERY
The Curlew is an iconic bird of the Northumbrian hills and an emblem of the Northumberland National Park.
Their distinctive call can be heard in the spring and summer on moorlands and hills as they return from the coastal
estuaries to the uplands to breed, nesting on the ground, camouflaging themselves and their eggs in the rush and heather.

PUFFIN JEWELLERY
Puffins are unmistakeable birds with black and white plumage and a brightly coloured bill and orange legs. They overwinter
in the sea then between April & July they return to a handful of sites in the UK to breed. One of the most important sites are
The Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland where they build a nest in a rabbit like burrow and lay a single egg. They
then spend the next couple of months raising the Puffling on land before returning to the sea.
